Forget Brexit, Dump Trump, drop the Dharna and put those Indo –Pak bans firmly to one side:  The team at BaluMahi just released the teaser to their much anticipated movie and it looks fabulous! Somewhere in a land far far away live these two incredibly good looking people ( Osman Khalid Butt and Ainy Jaffri) wandering around what looks like Hiren Manaar( a mughal hunting lodge at Sheikhupura) and we cannot wait to meet them. The glow of candles and diya’s lighting up the mystery of a dark night, a lead pair weaving through a very traditional rush of vendors and patrons  combined with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s singing  give this  teaser a storybook ,  almost Disney feel . It’s not surprising when we consider this film’s pedigree :Director Haissem Hussain  is the creative hand behind drama serials like Dastaan , Durr e Shehwar,  Bin Roye and AunZara and this is his signature style.

Balu Mahi is a romantic comedy and from the teaser at least, we might finally get some depth and an actual story along with the humour ,rather than a comedy reel of one liners with a bit of story thrown in.  The steady trickle of stills from this movie have been a visual delight, with the  kind of framing and creativity that has been sorely missing from some of the Pakistani movies released so far. There is a hint of Bollywood to this trailer, as Ainy Jaffri’s duppattah is caught on an amused looking Osman Khalid Butt’s shirt sleeve; but the fresh, young faces and the stunning visuals make it all look very new.

If Osman Khalid Butt and Ainy Jafry can project half as much romantic chemistry  on the big screen as they are literally lighting up this teaser with , then  this movie looks like a must watch.  Balu Mahi is releasing on 10^th of February and so far it looks like a lot of fun. This may well provide Pakistani movie goers and distributors the much needed relief they are looking for .
